Real Madrid will buy Joselu’s contract from Espanyol for 1.5 million euros

The experienced forward made a significant contribution to the Blancos’ successes last season.

Real will use the option to buy out the striker Joselu at Espanola. The amount of compensation will be 1.5 million euros.

Let us remind you that the Madrid club took the older forward (he turned 34 in May) on loan last summer. Real paid Espanyol 500 thousand euros for borrowing the player for the season, plus the agreement included an optional option to buy out the contract for one and a half million.

Joselu more than lived up to expectations. Not being a stable starter, he played 49 matches for Blancos in all competitions, scored 17 goals (10 in La Liga) and provided three assists.

The striker’s finest hour was the return semi-final of the Champions League against Bayern on May 8 (2:1). Coming on as a substitute at the end when the score was 0:1, the Spaniard managed to score two goals and led his team to the final. Joselu became the oldest scorer of a double in the Champions League playoffs after coming on as a substitute.

During his career, the forward played with varying success for Celta Vigo, Real Castilla, Hoffenheim, Eintracht Frankfurt, Hannover, Stoke City, Deportivo, Newcastle and Alaves. Joselu pulled out a lucky ticket thanks to a strong 2022/23 season with Espanyol – 38 matches, 17 goals and 4 assists.

At 33 years old (less than two days), the native of Stuttgart, Germany made his debut in the Spanish national team. Since March 2023, he has played 11 matches for Furia Roja, scored five goals and ultimately earned a trip to the 2024 European Championship.

At the end of last season, Real Madrid became the champion of Spain and the winner of the Champions League.
