The Ukrainian’s age is not in his favor.
Promoter Alexander Krasyuk spoke about preparations for the next fight for the Ukrainian WBO lightweight champion Denis Berinchyk (19-0, 9 KO).
“Berinczyk became the WBO world champion on the same day as Usyk. Now he will have to defend his title at the end of the year. We do not yet know where this fight will take place. Very interesting negotiations are underway, which may end with a very interesting result. But it is too early to talk about it.”
“You can just look at the rankings, check the four sanctioning bodies – from the top 5 or top 7, you can easily pick an opponent. But on the other hand, Berinchyk is not a young guy. He is 36 years old, and he does not have as much time as young 25-year-old boxers. He needs to be decisive and act quickly.”
Let us recall that in May, Berinchyk won a split decision over Mexican Emmanuel Navarrete. The Ukrainian won the long-awaited WBO lightweight title.
Berinchyk plans to defend his title against Britain’s Mark Chamberlain. The fight is expected to take place before the end of this year.
Another possible opponent for the Ukrainian was William Cepeda. Undefeated American lightweight Raymond Murattaglia also expressed a desire to fight Berinchyk.
