Naomi gave up only five games to her opponent
Two-time US Open champion Naomi Osaka from Japan beat the world’s 10th racket Elena Ostapenko from Latvia in the first round US Open 2024.
In the first set, the opponents acted confidently on their serves. The fate of the set was decided in the eighth game, when Osaka made a break, after which she brought the matter to victory – 6:3.
In the second set, Naomi won two more games on Ostapenko’s serve and finished the match with the third match point – 6:2.
Osaka will play Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic in the next round, while Ostapenko will continue her performance in the doubles at the US Open, where she will play in tandem with Ukrainian Lyudmyla Kichenok.
Earlier, three Ukrainians made it to the second round of the US Open 2024: Marta Kostyuk, Elina Svitolina and Angelina Kalinina. It should be noted that Elina and Angelina will play each other in the next match.
