RUSADA completes investigation into figure skater Valieva’s case

– The investigation is over. The next step is for the results processing department, they prepare the documents for the organization of the hearings in the Disciplinary Anti-Doping Commission (DAK) in accordance with the established rules and procedures, RUSADA said.

The investigation is a normal procedure that precedes the formation of RUSADA’s position (under the so-called “Indictment”) and the transfer of the case to the Disciplinary Committee for hearings. As part of the investigation, the factual circumstances are collected, then in the “Prosecution” all the collected evidence is analyzed from the legal side, and the accusation is presented directly, with a proposal for a sanction (or, at the reverse, a justification).

Valieva participated in team competitions at the Beijing Olympics, where our athletes won a gold medal. The day after the team leader’s free program, it was learned that the illegal drug trimetazidine had been found in the figure skater’s doping sample taken at the Russian Championships in December.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport allowed Valieva to participate in individual competitions, where she took fourth place.

In July, World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) President Vitold Banka said RUSADA had requested documents from the organization on the Valieva case.
