Computer screens are very healthy. Not only did they peak in sales over the decade, but they also progressed and evolved in terms of size, design, and functionality. Here we have a good example with one of ViewSonic’s latest North American models.
As we said, a new growth trend has (finally) been generated in the size and performance of monitors which, until recently and for the most part, stuck to the standardized 27 inch. We’re not going to say it’s a bad size, but new technological possibilities have driven the demand for more and better screens, which not only offer an immersive experience (here the curved effect that several models have works) but also with more varied connectivity ports, audio systems, versatility of movement, resolution and of course, refresh rate.
Without going any further, 2021 was the year in which global monitor shipments reached a volume not seen in the industry for nine years. Although the above may be partly explained by the effects of the pandemic, the truth is that the demand for PC monitors has increased significantly. According to data from the consulting firm IDC, the brands that dominate the segment are very similar to those that dominate the global PC market: Dell, Lenovo, HP and Samsung, mainly.
Xiaomi Mi Curved Monitor 34″: total immersion
But one of the fastest growing monitor manufacturers in the last year 2021 is the North American ViewSonic, the brand of the three little birds. The multinational, created by James Chu in 1987, has specialized in recent decades in the construction of monitors, large format screens and projectors, among other visual accessories. It may not be the market leader in units, but the company has made a name for itself in visual solutions for all needs, especially business and education.
Here we have a model that immediately catches the eye with its size and features: the ViewSonic Omni VX3268. Let’s find out in detail:

user experience
A very pleasant detail when taking this monitor out of its box is that it is extremely easy to assemble. Before, the classic homemade tool was necessary and perhaps even the help of a second to be able to correctly install the window on the digital world that a monitor offers us. Here there were no problems and I managed to get this great screen working without any major complications in less than 10 minutes. Everything came in the box, ready to go plug & playeven with a handy little screwdriver and ever-useful HDMI cable. Everything is fine.
Seeing it unfold in all its glory, with its curved and glorious black color, there is no doubt that we are talking about a new generation of monitors, much more imposing, large and sophisticated than the classic flat screen than the large most of us are used to it.
The structure of the Omni VX3268 is comfortable: it is represented with two opposite side bases and a body that allows the screen to be moved in angles and in height. Plus, it includes a pair of stereo speakers which, if you don’t have an alternative audio output, do the job just fine. It also includes a very useful “jack” input for headphones.

Aesthetically it looks good, with an imposing presence, but it’s not a very innovative model either, especially considering that it is a monitor designed for the video game.
This screen initially offers a very nice curvature, with very thin edges. Until not too long ago the standard for bends was 1800R (wider) and currently they are 1500R, closer to the human eye, which has 1000R. The above results in a much more immersive visual experience than the traditional one, where visual space, in addition to size, becomes much more relevant when it comes to multitasking, having multiple windows, applications or widgets open and what about the time to play video games. But we will see that later.
Connecting the screen to the laptop was no problem either. The screen includes connectivity with HDMI (2) and DisplayPort ports, so any computer or terminal can be able to connect to the device without any problem.

Display
Everything is ready, it’s time to turn it on. Connections are usually automatic, although there is always the option of manual on/off. In fact, as is more or less usual, the monitor’s manual controls are housed in its rear right corner. The way they are laid out is almost never comfortable and it usually takes some trial and error to get the functionality you want. Why an unobtrusive remote isn’t included, or an app that lets you make changes without having to reach behind the device, remains a mystery.
Beyond that, just displaying incredibly detailed panoramic Full HD photos on this monitor is a real treat. The same to see videos in full screen or, simply, to realize the enormous space there is on the desktop to carry out tasks.
Now as a good monitor mainly oriented to the public playerIt’s in this department that ViewSonic’s monitor shines. From its 165Hz refresh rate, blazing-fast response times, plus supporting software like AMD FreeSync (which synchronizes frame rate output between the graphics card and monitor), enable a gaming experience fluid, fluid and optimal. Added to this are the multiple automatic presets for genre games, such as shooting, sports, racing or strategy titles. For each of them there is a special pre-designed mode.
Similar to the past experience with Xiaomi’s 34″ monitor, the experience with more than 30 inches is truly remarkable and totally changes the visual perception of the user, whether for work, entertainment or, as we say. said, to play video games. Because the relationship and the visual immersion are much more powerful and intoxicating.
As expected, the performance and display of graphics-intensive titles like the guardians of the galaxythe Forza Horizon 5 or the last far cry turned out without any problems (an MSI Raider GE76 laptop was used for the test). On the contrary: he had an elegance and fluidity rarely seen by the undersigned. There were no visual hiccups or abnormal details. It was really an improvement.
In the long run, perhaps ViewSonic could have been more ambitious and brought the very good resolution of its Full HD screen to a slightly higher level (4K?). But that would already be greedy on our part.

Practical verdict
What is coming then is relatively clear: a gradual but sure renewal of the monitors. The advantages and possibilities of the new generation of monitors are too attractive to pass up. Many have even discovered the benefits of working with more than one monitor, which in terms of productivity is definitely a step up.
Considering what it takes today to have a great viewing experience, especially if you spend several hours playing video games, both in terms of price and features, the ViewSonic Omni VX3268 is an excellent alternative.
