Rugby Championship: South Africa, with casualties to face Los Pumas

The Springbooks, who just lost to Australia, will have three absences in the clash against the Argentines for the fifth date of the Rugby Championship.

The South African rugby team, current world champions, will arrive in Argentina with three casualties to play on September 17 against Los Pumasin the court of Vélez for the fifth date of Rugby Championship.

As reported by the specialist site A Pleno Rugby, the Springbooks, who have just beaten Australia, from the visitors 24 to 8, will come with absences in the center. Lukhanyo Am, fly half Andre Pollard and hooker Bongi Mbonambi.

Am, one of the most important players in the team coached by Jacques Nienaber, underwent knee surgery on Friday and will have between eight and 12 weeks to recover, so he will not be available for the November tour of Europe either. On Pollard’s side, he also has a knee injury and is expected to be out of action for six weeks, so he will miss the matches against Argentina and travel to England to start his new cycle with Leicester. Finally, Mbonambi also suffered a knee injury and will not be going to Buenos Aires but there is some possibility that he will be able to play in the final RCH date on the 24th of this month in the South African city of Durban.

South Africa in this RCH beat New Zealand 26-10 and fell to the All Blacks 35-23, both at home, and then visited Australia losing 25-17 and winning 24-8.

The RCH is led by New Zealand with 10 units, followed by Australia, Argentina and South Africa with nine, in the most even edition in history.
