Sky Sports has ended its broadcasting coverage of the Baller League after choosing not to renew its television contract for next season.

According to The Guardian, executives at Sky were satisfied with the viewing figures and social media engagement generated by the competition, but believed the broadcasting partnership had reached a natural conclusion.

The UK edition of the indoor six a side competition launched in 2025, reflecting the growing influence of digital creators and internet personalities in mainstream sports broadcasting.

Shift to free to air broadcast model

Baller League chief executive Felix Starck told The Guardian that the organisation did not attempt to extend its deal with Sky. He explained that organizers are now focused on making the competition available free to air while building its presence on YouTube.

Reports indicate that discussions did take place with Comcast, the parent company of Sky Sports, before the decision was finalized.

Celebrity backers and tournament structure

The competition has attracted prominent high profile backers since its inception, including YouTube personality KSI and former England international footballers Gary Lineker and Ian Wright.

Last season concluded with a sold out event at the O2 Arena in London, where Prime FC, a team owned by KSI, secured the title.

Teams in the league are typically managed by notable public figures and sports personalities, including England footballer Chloe Kelly and content creator Angry Ginge. Squads are composed primarily of former professional players and unattached footballers.

Format and origin of the league

The Baller League originally launched in Germany in 2024 with the backing of German World Cup winners Mats Hummels and Lukas Podolski. The concept was inspired by the Kings League tournament created in Spain.

The UK tournament features 12 teams competing in back to back fixtures on Monday nights. Games feature rolling substitutions to maintain a fast pace throughout play.

At the end of the regular season, the top four teams advance to the semi finals, before a single final match determines the overall league champion.
