Team Europe host reigning champions Team USA at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands for the 20th Solheim Cup from September 11 to 13.
The three-day competition features five sessions of match-play golf with a total of 28 points available across the tournament. Team Europe require 14.5 points to reclaim the trophy, while defending champions Team USA need 14 points to retain it after securing a 15.5-12.5 victory in Virginia two years ago.
The Solheim Cup is the premier biennial team competition in women's professional golf, pitting 12-player teams from Europe and the United States against each other in match play. Bernardus Golf, located in Cromvoirt in the southern Netherlands, hosts the event for the first time.
Tournament format and scoring rules
The event opens on Friday morning with four foursomes matches, followed by four fourball matches in the afternoon. The same schedule will be repeated on Saturday before all 24 players compete in 12 individual singles matches on Sunday.
In foursomes golf, pairs play alternate shots with one ball per team, taking turns to tee off on alternate holes. In fourballs, each golfer plays her own ball, with the lowest score among the pair counting on each hole. Singles features direct head-to-head match play between individual players.
Each match is worth one point to the winning team, with half a point awarded to each side in the event of a tied match after 18 holes.
