Canadian singer Tate McRae and Olympic gold medalist Jack Hughes have reportedly split after dating exclusively since March. Page Six reported on Friday that Hughes, 25, has told friends he ended the relationship after seeing red flags in McRae. However, sources close to the 23-year-old singer insist that she was the one who broke things off.
The couple were first spotted together on a dinner date at Anton's in the West Village of New York City in November before being seen on a walk weeks later. Hughes was reportedly the instigator who messaged McRae first on social media. Us Weekly reported that the pair began dating exclusively in March.
McRae was also seen at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, watching Hughes play for the New Jersey Devils. Hughes scored the winning goal in overtime of the gold medal game against Canada at this year's Olympics in Italy.
MAGA Speculation and Political Controversy
Rumors of a separation emerged this week after McRae addressed speculation that she is a MAGA supporter. That speculation followed an event where Hughes and his USA hockey teammates were filmed laughing at a joke made by Donald Trump about the U.S. women's hockey team.
While inviting the team to Washington, D.C., Trump said, "I must tell you, we're going to have to bring the women's team, you do know that." He added, "I do believe I probably would be impeached."
Several men's players apologized over the interaction while stressing their close bond with the women's team, and Hughes insisted that the players are "tight." The men's team visited the White House upon returning to America and attended the State of the Union Address as Trump's special guests on February 24.
In response to the speculation, McRae told Variety: "I like to say my piece through organizations I support and the environment that I have on tour. I think it's pretty obvious what kind of person I am and the things I support. And I hope that my fans can see that through the things that I'm putting my energy towards."
