Russian national team biathlete Alexander Povarnitsyn I remembered the episode with the attack on the team bus in Europe.
The International Biathlon Union (IBU) announced in late February that it would only allow Russians and Belarusians to compete in neutral status. After that, the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) announced that Russian athletes would not participate in the remaining stages of the World Cup until the end of the season. Subsequently, the IBU decided on the complete suspension of Russian and Belarusian biathletes.
“Unfortunately, we faced this when it all started. At that time we were in Europe, and we have a big bus in the colors of the Russian flag. I left this bus in the parking lot – a man came and kicked hard. I thought he was a drunk or some kind of idiot, I got on the bus and he started yelling at me with good Russian obscenities. I got out of the car and I started explaining to him that we are the same ordinary people and we want to go home, we are stuck here and don’t even know how to get there.
As a result, thanks to the usual dialogue, they came to the fact that they shook hands. Most people understand that man is not an enemy of man. It is clear that we are involved in this, but above all we must remain human beings and respect each other,” Povarnitsyn told the “Championship”.
