“If prices are paid on the budget, it is not good” – biathlete Povarnitsyn

Biathlete Alexander Povarnitsyn expressed the view that prize money paid at domestic competitions should come from sponsors and advertising contracts, not from the state budget.

— If something is paid, that’s good enough. We were paid 10,000 rubles for third place in the relay at the Russian Championships in Tyumen last season – that was already good. It was a prerequisite for us to go in the right direction. You just need to understand that sport is only a small part of life for which you ruin your health, because it is not physical education. All this then affects you negatively. Still, you have to get some sort of compensation.

But we also have to consider the means by which we receive this money. If it’s public funding, it’s no good. There are people who receive salaries from the budget, there is also the social sphere, infrastructure, where this money should go. And if it’s sponsorship money, advertising – I’m happy. Because we attract customers for them and receive a salary for this, as well as deductions from bookmakers. This is a good step, – quotes the words of Povarnitsyn “Championship”.

At the Russian Summer Championships in Tchaikovsky, Povarnitsyn won two bronze medals in the relay and in the individual race.
