Head coach of the Russian national cross-country team Yuri Borodavko responded to remarks by the head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach on the possible admission of Russian athletes to international competitions in a neutral status.
On Friday, Bach, in an interview with Corriere della Sera, said that Russians who do not support the special operation in Ukraine should be able to participate in international competitions in a neutral status.
– Bach’s statement is not blackmail, but an attempt to destabilize the situation inside Russia. All such statements are made for this sole purpose. I think there are hardly any athletes on the national team who will start. In my opinion, it’s a provocation, they claim that they are going to make concessions to us, they want to help athletes.
But in fact, there is a deeper meaning here: knowing that our athlete will not agree to such conditions, Bach at the same time seeks to show his loyalty to Russian sport, Borodavko told the Championship.
