The US Treasury Department on Friday added a number of Russian sports figures to the new sanctions list, according to the department’s website.
Sanctions list includes three-time Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling champion Alexander Karelin, three-time Olympic champion in ice hockey, president of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation Vladislav Tretiak President of the Russian Triathlon Federation Ksenia Shoigu, Olympic champion Svetlana Zhurova Honorary President of the VTB United Basketball League Sergei Ivanov, and former member of the International Olympic Committee and Honorary President of the Russian Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov.
At the end of February, the IOC recommended to international sports federations to prevent Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in competitions due to the situation in Ukraine.
