Head Coach Russian team in speed skating Dmitri Dorofeev reported that the world record holder Pavel Kulizhnikov will start the season at Shavyrin Memorial.
The competitions will start on October 13 in Kolomna.
– Pavel is fine, he passed the whole preparatory phase and showed good seconds in training. The whole men’s sprint group is doing well. I had a conversation with him, there were certain doubts that there was no motivation. In light of recent events, we have nowhere to turn back. We are now waiting for the Shavyrin Memorial. He assured me that he would start the season at these competitions. Nikolai Alekseevich Gulyaev (President of the Russian Skating Union) assured that we would meet and talk. Pavel is motivated to continue racing and training,” Dorofeev told a press conference at ‘s press center.
The Russians have been suspended from ISU competitions amid the situation in Ukraine until further notice.
