President of the Russian Skating Union Nikolai Gulyaev spoke about the state of communication with the International Skating Union (ISU) and noted that it was hardly worth waiting for the Russians to be cleared to start soon.
The ISU, in the context of the situation in Ukraine, withdrew Russians from participating in competitions under its auspices.
– We communicate in the international federation with Alexander Kibalko (member of the ISU board of directors – approx.), And I have direct contact with the new president of the ISU. Although the case has not reached any concrete milestones, we are looking at how the situation will develop. A wonderful, indicative example is the decision of the IBA (International Boxing Association) on the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to all international competitions, moreover, under the flag of their country.
– Probably, we are not counting on such a generous decision from the ISU?
– I would like to, but practice and life experience suggest that, probably, we will not expect this in the near future. But we are still in the process. Yesterday I read an article saying that our quotas are preserved. Yes, nobody removed the quotas, the question is how and if this quota will be used. We are on alert, the main task is to guard the backbone of the national team and pay attention to the interior of the country, the youth, the nearest reserve and the state of the sport in the regions,” Gulyaev told a press conference at the press center.
