“We hope the regional federations will make the right choice.” Sports Minister Matytsin on the election of the leader of the RRF

Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin expressed the hope that the regional biathlon federations will make the right choice in the upcoming presidential elections of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU).

The current head of the RRF is nominated for the post Viktor Maygurov and vice-president of the organization Aleksey Nuzhdov.

– The Ministry of Sports is in cooperation with the Russian Biathlon Union. We understand that it is one of the main federations in influencing and strengthening the authority of Russian sport, popularizing biathlon.

We hope that the regional federations will make the right choice and we will provide assistance so that the position of Russian biathlon on the world stage and the program for the development of biathlon in the regions are successfully implemented.

From the perspective of funding for biathlon development programs, we do not see a decrease, subsidies under the programs will be fully implemented,” Matytsin told reporters.

On Tuesday, Tatarstan Biathlon Federation President Ildar Nugmanov said the federations of Transbaikalia, Perm Territory, Kaluga region, Republic of Buryatia and Novosibirsk region were forced to vote for Viktor Maigurov in the elections for the head of the RBU.

Representatives of the Trans-Baikal, Kaluga and Perm federations have confirmed to that they are under pressure through regional sports ministries ahead of the re-election of the RBU chief, which will be held on October 14. According to the results of the vote, which took place on June 23, none of the candidates won 2/3 of the votes: Maigurov was supported by 35 delegates, Nuzhdov – 18. Repeated elections for the president of the RBU will be held in Moscow on October 14.
