The Biathlon Federation of the Transbaikal Territory was forced to vote for the current president of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) Viktor Maygurov during the election of the head of the RBU and threatened the federation with deprivation of accreditation, world champion, president of the Biathlon Federation of the Transbaikal Territory Gennady Kovalev told .
Earlier on Tuesday, Tatarstan Biathlon Federation President Ildar Nugmanov said that the federations of Transbaikalia, Perm Territory, Kaluga region, Republic of Buryatia and Novosibirsk region were forced to vote in the RBU leadership elections for incumbent President Maygurov. The day before, he also mentioned two operations with a budget of 82 and 42 thousand euros and fictitious documents with the participation of Maygurov. In response to this, the head of the RRF in a comment to sports.ru said that this was not Nugmanov’s first attempt to make “revelations”, which Maygurov himself called unfounded and unfounded . He also added that with the second candidate for the post of president of the RBU, Alexei Nuzhdov, he had agreed on a “regime of silence” in order to avoid “stuffing”. Repeated elections for the president of the RBU will be held in Moscow on October 14.
“The pressure was absolutely right. I got three text messages from our regional sports minister, I even published them at the regional planning meeting – there was a clear message to vote for Maigurov. Many regions, when we were at the June 23 conference, showed me similar text messages. I just got instructions to vote for Maigurov, and they got threats up to dismissal.
Before the next elections, the pressure has also started. I had the most direct pressure. I held a meeting in our area. The local sports minister and his deputies arrived at our federation meeting. He tried to interfere with the course of our meeting, but he did not have the right to vote. When they presented my candidacy (to represent the region at the RBU conference), the sports minister said that I wanted to be elected as a delegate.
It was explained to him that he is not a member of the regional federation and that he does not have the right to do so. He replied that he would write an order to deprive our biathlon federation of accreditation so that I, Kovalev, would be removed from my position as head of the federation. But there was no reason to deprive us of accreditation. We report annually on our work, I do not violate anything.
Elections must be fair. I am the only one of all the delegates who has attended all RRF conferences since the first one. Maybe also Vadim Ivanovich Melikhov. Never in my life have I felt such pressure. It started in 2020, when Vladimir Drachev was forced out. Now the sports ministers are pushing, but then the governors intervened directly in the elections to vote for Maigurov. Then I had a similar conversation with our governor, – Kovalev told “”.
