The press service of the Ministry of Sports of Russia has denied allegations of alleged interference by the department in the election of the president of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU).
The current head of the organization, Viktor Maigurov, and vice-president Alexei Nuzhdov are candidates for the post of head of the RRF. On Tuesday, Tatarstan Biathlon Federation President Ildar Nugmanov said the federations of Transbaikalia, Perm Territory, Kaluga region, Republic of Buryatia and Novosibirsk region were forced to vote for Viktor Maigurov in the elections for the head of the URB.
Representatives of the Trans-Baikal and Kaluga federations have confirmed to that they are under pressure from regional sports ministries ahead of the re-election of the RBU leader.
– In connection with the comments that appeared in the media about the interference of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation in the election of the President of the Russian Biathlon Union, the press service reports the following. According to Article 17 of Federal Law No. 82-FZ “On Public Associations”, the interference of state authorities in the activities of public associations is not permitted.
The Ministry of Sports of Russia does not interfere in the activities of All-Russian public organizations and does not exert any influence on the election of heads of organizations. The allegations of pressure exerted by the Russian Ministry of Sports are false and discredit the activities of the ministry and its employees. These statements are used as a tool to influence the conduct of the vote in the election of the President of the RBU.
The Ministry of Sports of Russia, as a federal executive body responsible for developing and implementing state policy in the field of physical culture and sports, interacts with the RBU and other Russian sports federations exclusively within its competence and supports the independent vote of regional federations, — declared in the departement.
The election of the President of the RBU will take place on October 14.
