Double Olympic champion Olga Zaitseva told that in a difficult time for Russian sport, he was re-elected as the head of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) Viktor Maygurov deal with the situation.
On Friday, an RBU reporting and election conference was held in Moscow, the vote for presidential candidates was secret. Aleksey Nuzhdov, president of the Moscow Region Biathlon Federation, also claimed the position of head of the organization. All 54 delegates who took part in the meeting voted: Maygurov received 31 votes, Nuzhdov – 23.
“What did you say today to the delegates on the podium?”
– I was worried, I haven’t played for a long time. I think I emotionally conveyed my position and acted a bit in opposition to my opponents, I also spoke in favor of Viktor.
– Why did they support Maigurov?
– I know him as an athlete, since junior age. We were raised to always treat the older generation with respect. For me, this is the older generation, I looked at him like Vyalba, Smetanina, Kulakov, Reztsova, Noskova. They are all great people. I always have a respectful attitude towards Maygurov, he has been doing biathlon for so many years, he was a member of the international federation. There are a lot of positive reviews about him from foreign colleagues, he played a great role in the IBU, he was never attacked, he defended the honor of our country at this level with dignity . He is a man who loves biathlon, he has devoted his whole life to it, he is a professional. I am inclined to believe that the head of the sports federation should be a professional with a capital letter, like Elena Valerievna Vyalbe. I greatly admire. I hope Victor will continue to work. That’s how much it worked, and guys have already started seeing results. It’s a high-level sport, but you also have to look at the children, that’s what the regions do. We have to raise children for the national team.
We choose the path we take. Either we sell ourselves and throw money at everything, or we vote for that person who will hurt their soul and do what they love. Of course, it takes money, it’s a difficult time, everyone has to tighten their belts and work for the good of their country, play sports and survive. Athletes are able to cope with all conditions, we are hardened from childhood. Therefore, Victor will find money, everything will be fine.
– How did you react to the latest news and statements before the election of the leader of the RRF?
“It’s a bad and dirty game. Candidates in all elections use different methods, but it was wrong. Strength is in truth, we must fight honestly, fairly, sincerely. The strongest wins.
— Was today’s meeting more constructive than in June?
I was not on the first. Luckily you got it today. But my female colleagues said that at the last meeting their hair was on end, they were shocked by the behavior of the candidates. Also today someone tried to impress, but it was ugly to behave like that. We need to talk openly now, after the elections we still need dialogue.
