FIS refused to transfer sports citizenship to two Russians due to late submission of applications – media

The International Ski Federation (FIS) has not allowed two Russians to change sports citizenship to Israel due to the fact that the applications were submitted after the deadline set by the organization, informs the Norwegian edition Nettavisen .

In September, the media, quoting FIS General Secretary Michel Vion, reported that two Russian athletes tried to join the Israeli national team, but were turned down.

The FIS notes that in order to be allowed to change nationality, an athlete must, for example, be in possession of the passport of the country to which he wishes to transfer and, among other things, have resided in the country for a minimum period of time.

“All athletes must meet the criteria before their applications are assessed,” the federation said in a statement.

In March, the FIS followed the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and suspended the representatives of Russia and Belarus from competition until the end of the 2021/22 season. In July, the suspension was extended until the end of the summer season. A decision regarding the 2022/23 season is expected in October.
