Russian ice skating coach Dmitry Dorofeev told that the sprint team entered the season in good shape, but the question remains how much motivation will be enough without international departures.
World champion Ruslan Murashov won the 500m at the Shavyrin Memorial in Kolomna and world record holder Pavel Kulizhnikov won the 1000m.
– Murashov ran with a decent result at these competitions, he is very motivated. That day was the best result of the season in the world. Kulizhnikov won the 1000m, although there were three turns on two feet. But the questions are now mainly in the head, not in the legs. Legs can run and thoughts are still hard in terms of perception. In training it can, but when it goes from a distance it’s even hard to explain, it’s 1 minute 10 seconds, although it can be 1 minute 7 seconds,” Dorofeev told .
Nevertheless, the fact that Kulizhnikov has covered three distances at the start of the season is a big problem. The problem is that we don’t see any benchmarks in the current preparedness situation. We maintain the level, but as long as we can maintain it in such circumstances and constantly implement it in competitions between us – the excitement in such conditions ends very quickly, unfortunately.
The International Skating Union (ISU), in the context of the situation in Ukraine, withdrew the Russians from competitions under its auspices.
