Despite the fact that in Ukraine there is a war with the Russian invaders, in our country they decided to naturalize an athlete from the aggressor country.

According to championat.com, two-time champion of the 2017 Winter Universiade, skier Valeriy Gontar became Ukrainian.

It has been reported that the skier, who will turn 29 on October 27, is now in Austria, where he is trying to settle down and find work.

At the same time, the athlete does not have to serve the mandatory quarantine provided for when changing sports citizenship. The fact is that as a Russian athlete, Gontar last competed in the starts in the 2019/2020 season.

At the same time, he did not enter the adult group. He failed to qualify for the World Cup stages, and he only performed at the World Universiade.
