Russia’s Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA) should take full responsibility for the medical support of national teams and ensure that quack doctors do not appear around them offering to use banned substances, said said a member of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports Anton Shipulin .
Shipulin spoke on Wednesday at the round table of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports “Medicine for Sports of the Highest Achievements: History and Development.”
– Fortunately or unfortunately, I went through three Olympic cycles and saw with my own eyes a problem that is actually very important. Before the Olympics, world championships and other major competitions, charlatans appear in front of athletes who offer various substances, good amino acids, etc. And then we are faced with the fact that athletes fall in love with EPO and so on. I speak from personal experience, I have seen this happen. In such cases, the Ministry of Sports always remains the last resort, even if in this case it has nothing to do with it. FMBA doctors should take their responsibilities here, not allow any unauthorized person to enter the team location of Russian national teams and continue to be responsible for the whole anti-doping situation. So that the Ministry of Sports does not rake in full later,” Shipulin said during his speech.
