Silver medal at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver skier Alexander Panjinsky believes that the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) wants to see the Russians in the competition, but cannot allow them without permission from the International Olympic Committee (VJR).
On Saturday, the FIS extended indefinitely the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions under its auspices. This decision was taken on Saturday at a meeting of the FIS Council.
– It was planned, but, of course, I took this news with great regret. I wanted to believe in a miracle, but a miracle did not happen, but what everyone expected happened. But, fortunately, no drastic decision was taken: just another extension of the suspension. They just don’t know what to do on their own. They want the Russians back, but the IOC is broadcasting other ideas to them. Ideas that are guided by certain political decisions. Unfortunately, the IOC directly says that politics affects sport. The FIS is very dependent on the IOC, unlike the International Boxing Federation, which can authorize the Russians or even propose some of its own ideas to the IOC. The FIS, on the other hand, are definitely fulfilling all the orders, although I’m sure and I know that they want the Russian skiers back, but they can’t do anything at the moment and, probably, they’re waiting for a reason for the return of Russian athletes. We all hope good news will come soon,” Panzhinsky told .
