Acting President Biathlon Federation of Ukraine Volodymyr Brynzak spoke about the preparation of the Ukrainian team for the 2022/23 season.
“As for the meetings, the training process, provision – all this has been decided. There are no problems with the preparation, as always, everyone was abroad: both in the summer and on the roller coaster. With cartridges, inventory, everything is in order, now they have given a new form to Italian production.
Therefore, I do not see any problems – the only question is how the athletes will cope psychologically. Since there is a war, the athletes’ relatives are in Ukraine, and now, unfortunately, there is no safe place in the country.
I don’t know yet if there will be sponsors. Now the war is hard for everyone. Therefore, I do not even initiate these questions. Firstly, it is purely economically difficult for people, and secondly, I am in a state of uncertainty, it is not known who will be president … So, there are no sponsors yet.
The state will finance to a certain extent, the federation has some opportunities … I think we will solve this issue by joint efforts. Of course, these are not the funds that we counted on at the beginning of the year. But I am sure that some funds will be allocated for priority sports, which include biathlon. Perhaps there will be problems with the financing of teams in the IBU Cup, junior competitions. But the main team, in my opinion, will be provided. Perhaps not at full strength, but we will already see this in the course of the season.
Earlier, the coach of the men’s biathlon team of Ukraine Juraj Sanitra said that the team after the Austrian training camp will go to Norway in November. The mentor noted that before the start of the 2022/23 season, it is important to prepare the athletes for a large number of moves in order to withstand the entire upcoming program.
Biathlon World Cup 2022/23 will start on November 29 at the stage in Finnish Kontiolahti. The German Oberhof will host the World Championship in February next year.
