Olympic short track champion Semyon Elistratov in a conversation with expressed the view that Russian team will not participate in international competitions next season. In his opinion, the situation with the suspension is long-term.
Amid the situation in Ukraine, Russian athletes have been suspended from competitions under the auspices of the International Skating Union (ISU) until further notice.
– Today was your first start of the season. Is the Russian Cup an important tournament?
We have been suspended from all competitions. Something tells me that this story is a long one. I don’t think there will be any international competitions this year or the next. I am listening to all starts and I proceed from my conditions. I run, I try something. Today it turned out that he won 1500, in 500 m it was not possible to reach the final. Probably the most important thing is that in the current situation, I have no problem with motivation. I really enjoy the competitive process. I don’t think my time spent in sport is increasing. But I like what I do, – said Elistratov “”.
– Your coach said that you will get the necessary condition only for the Russian championship. It’s true?
– Oh, sure. I really don’t like it when athletes call competitions to pass. What does this mean in the understanding of many? It’s the Russian Cup, I came here, so I have to run and show the result. Whether I already show this result or not is another question.
What tournaments will we see you in this season?
– This season, there will be two big starts: at the end of December, the Russian Championship in Kolomna and the Russian Single Distance Championship in Ufa at the end of March. These are the two departures for which we are preparing. Sports and athletics, as the Minister of Sports (Oleg) Matytsin said, we will not have this season and next season. There is a hope of competition with the Chinese, but this information is still distant and murky. We are preparing this season for two big starts and the Russian Cups, in which I will take part.
