“We are obliged to act in the interest of the athletes and the development of our sport.” Minister of Sports of Belarus on the Biathlon Commonwealth Cup

Minister of Sports and Tourism of Belarus Sergei Kovalchuk believes that joint biathlon competitions with Russia are a good example of cooperation between countries in the field of sports.

In August and September, the first two stages of the Commonwealth Cup were held in Sochi and Belarusian Raubichi, in which biathletes from Russia and Belarus participate.

— I would like to thank my colleague from the Russian Ministry of Sports. The format we adopted two years ago turned out to be very correct. We were able to quickly and efficiently make all the adjustments at a time when it was necessary to counter the sanctions that had appeared.

The colleges we hold are already producing results today. Biathlon can serve as an example of good interaction, when our teams held competitions in Ufa, and then in Belarus. This year we held a summer biathlon competition, a simple example of how modern events should be organised. We ourselves have not withdrawn from any sports organization, but in this situation, in the interests of athletes and the development of our sport, we are obliged to take such measures, ”Kovalchuk told reporters.

– The President of Belarus is very fond of hockey. Is it related to your visit to the Smolensk Ice Palace?

— Hockey is one of our country’s favorite sports, we are very sensitive to this sport, and it is developing very well in the country. We now have 45 rinks, which is a very good indicator for a small country. Therefore, it is interesting to know at what level the ice arena is located in the region.

– Is there anything to emphasize?

– Sure. There are some Czech and Russian production simulators. Part of what we have, we trade. We have very close interactions and we complement each other normatively.

In Smolensk, on November 10-11, a joint meeting of the boards of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation and Belarusian colleagues is held.
