Olympic cross-country skiing champion Veronika Stepanova in her column on , she noted that she not only fights for medals in tournaments, but also solves social issues at the state level.
– I know for sure that for me the struggle is not only and not so much on the ski slope, but also in the media space. Yes, with tiktokers, or rather old tiktokers. The state pays me quite generously for the exercise of certain functions. One of them is to get as many 12-year-old girls as possible, if not into sports, then at least into a healthy lifestyle. No alcohol, cigarettes, drugs or school age pregnancies. Explain simple and understandable things: if you beat laziness, play sports, you will learn how to win in life and on the ski slope (track, arena, playground). And as a bonus, you will get a strong and healthy body,” Stepanova wrote.
Stepanova, 21, won the relay at the 2022 Olympics with the Russian women’s team.
Now, Russian skiers are not allowed to compete under the auspices of the International Ski Federation (FIS) due to the situation in Ukraine.
