The coach of the Russian national team spoke about the psychological pressure on biathletes Serokhvostov and Khalili

Russian national team coach Artem Istomin told the “Championship” that biathletes Daniil Serokhvostov and Karim Khalili experiencing psychological pressure after the transition from Yuri Kaminsky’s group.

– Daniil Serokhvostov called the last off-season the worst of his career, citing numerous health issues. What were they?

– In April, he fell victim to a severe form of coronavirus. After that, he began to have allergic reactions, which immediately leads to a decrease in immunity. As a result, he missed the first training stage. Then he started to get involved, worked well in June and July, after which he fell ill with corona again in August.

I did not pressure him to immediately be treated with antibiotics, they tried to do without them – it did not work. Nevertheless, he had to undergo treatment, after which he seriously lost muscle mass and, as a result, in good shape. He has dedicated the last month to trying to regain the lost condition.

Daniel is a functional guy, and it’s a shame it all turned out that way. We had other plans for the coming season. It is in his power to reach last year’s level, but he is not sure to take a step forward. At this point he is recovering, and recovering well, and technically all the changes we wanted to see are visible.

Psychologically, he is a strong athlete, he will withstand anything. It is clear that he and Karim (Khalili) are under psychological pressure due to their membership in our group. I would like to ask those who do this – who are you rooting for? Obviously not for the Russian biathlon.

Are they under pressure? By who?

– There is pressure. But I won’t name anyone,” Istomin said.
