Vyalbe on Ustyugov win at Syktyvkar: ‘He should have won given the lack of rivals’

President of Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR) Elena Vyalbe in a conversation with a correspondent, she noted that the Olympic champion Sergei Ustyugov had to win the All-Russian competitions in Syktyvkar due to lack of rivals.

On Saturday, the 30-year-old skier won the 15 km freestyle race of the Syktyvkar Ski Track 2022 tournament with a score of 33 minutes 49.1 seconds. Previously, Ustyugov missed the first two stages of the Russian Cup atop Tyoi, as reported by Vyalbe, due to health issues.

– I am very happy with Sergey’s victory. Since there are no rivals, he should have won,” Vyalbe told .

– Did you discuss with him his absence during the first stages of the Russian Cup?

– He trains individually, not as a team. That’s why I didn’t tell him about it. I think Sergey Turyshev (head coach of the Yugra team) knows more.
