Start of the biathlon season – November 29
Coach of the men’s biathlon team of Ukraine Yuraj Sanitra commented on the upcoming start of the 2022/23 World Cup. According to the mentor, the military invasion of the Russian army in Ukraine influenced the training of athletes.
“Everyone understands that this season is very difficult not only for Ukrainian biathlon, but also for Ukraine. Both the athletes and all the staff of the national team did their best so that we could represent the country well at international competitions.”
“But you need to look at it from another point of view: the psychological state of the team cannot be compared with anything from the past. I, as a coach, expect that the difficult military situation in Ukraine will affect the concentration, the psychological readiness of athletes to “sell” what we have worked out during training.”
“It is not easy for us here, abroad, either. Everyone has families, wives, children, friends at home. People are dying. This situation affects the atmosphere and work of the team. Every day we wake up, watch the news and worry about those who are at home in Ukraine.”
“Therefore, this season will be specific for us. We will do everything to eliminate this psychological impact on the results as much as possible, and we will fight for everyone who defends the country at home and fights for its freedom.”
The first stage of the World Cup in Kontiolahti will be held from November 29 to December 4. In Finland, the men will hold four races – individual (November 29), relay (December 1), sprint (December 3) and pursuit (December 4).
