Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) Executive Committee Chairman Ivan Melikhov said RBU will consider the possibility of holding canceled races due to frost in Khanty-Mansiysk during another Cup stop from Russia.
On Sunday, the first stage of the Russian Cup ended earlier than expected due to weather conditions. The pursuit and relay races did not take place due to severe frost.
– Yesterday we looked at the forecast, and the weather forecast gave us about two hours of temperature below 20 degrees. We had planned and wanted to organize races, but the weather did not give us such a chance. Of course, we spoke to all the athletes, including members of the Russian team. Many in the morning went to training, to the shooting range, to the gym.
During the development of the calendar, there was talk of the possibility of organizing the canceled races elsewhere. Currently, Uvat is borderline 18-19 degrees, the jury and doctors will make a decision on the spot.
As always, Khanty-Mansiysk organized everything to a high standard, everything was prepared and done superbly. The athletes are very motivated this year. The executive committee of the RBU approved the prize money, according to the results of the races, six athletes receive money, and at the end of the season, the federations will also receive money, so there is interest .
Belarusian biathletes will go through three stages. Perhaps they will not participate in Ufa, but they will definitely come to Ryazan, and then to Rybinsk. They plan to play in the Russian championship. Of course, this is an extra motivation for the Russians,” Melikhov told .
The second stage of the Russian Cup will take place in Uvat from December 1 to 4.
