Double European Curling Champion Anna Sidorova in an interview with , she said she was ready to consider the option of returning to big sports with the admission of Russian curlers to international competitions.
Russian curlers are suspended from international competitions until the end of the 2021/22 season. Decisions regarding the 2022/23 season will be taken at the annual general meeting of the World Curling Federation (WCF).
– My main motivation was the Olympic medal, which I had never managed to win before. Now we have completed the four years (Olympic cycle) that the athletes live, and I understand that it will not be possible to prepare a new team for the next Olympic Games. If you constantly play only with Russian teams, this can only protect against stagnation, but not develop.
In this situation, I decided for my part to take a step back and leave professional sport, to see what happens in life, except for competitions. These are new emotions, but I still love the sport, and if they told me now that there is an opportunity to compete (at the international level), then I think I could return to the sport. Having such experience behind me, I fully understand that it takes many years to form a competitive team, to travel abroad, to play with the best teams in other countries, and only then can you count on success. Now we don’t have such an opportunity, and so at the moment I’m busy with my life,” Sidorova told .
