Biathlon World Cup Winner Larissa Kuklina told that holding races in a severe freeze does not end with anything good for the athletes.
The women’s individual race of the second stage of the Russian Cup in Uvat was canceled due to frost. Previously, the start was postponed from Thursday to Friday, and it was also decided to reduce the distance from 15 to 12.5 km. The race was scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m. Moscow time.
– Was the cancellation and postponement of the last races the right decision?
It is not for me to argue here whether this is right or not. But for the health of the athlete, it’s good that they canceled it. We are not immortal (laughs). Our immune system works in a special way, a possible exit at the start in such frosts would not end in anything good.
We spoke with the coach, our whole group said they wouldn’t start (in pursuit) if the temperature dropped below 20 degrees. The season has just started, if you look to the future, you better be careful,” Kuklina told .
– Was Yuri Mikhailovich Kaminsky strongly opposed to holding competitions?
– Yes. He spoke with the analytical service, called Moscow to weigh the pros and cons.
On Saturday, sprint races will be held in Uvat, on Sunday – mixed and mixed relay races.
