Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin expressed confidence that Muscovites and people across Russia will support World Skating Day and take to the rinks on this day.
On December 4, the world celebrates the first Skating Day, which was endorsed by the International Skating Union (ISU) in June 2022.
– A bit unusual, we skate on stage. But in a few minutes we will come down and join you (at the ceremony). Today is an amazing day – the first ever World Skating Day. It is great that this coincides with our tradition and we are launching our “Winter Sports” campaign throughout Russia. Olympic champion Nikolai Gulyaev told me that they had already celebrated in Vladivostok, almost the whole city went on skates. I am sure that Muscovites and residents of our great country will support this initiative.
Our great Russia is a winter country, a country with rich traditions not only in speed skating, but also in skiing. I wish everyone to actively participate in the sports you love. I express my gratitude to the Russian Skating Union, the Russian Olympic Committee, the Moscow (Sports) Department and all our friendly team. Today we are together and we want sport to become the norm of our life,” Matytsin told those gathered at the VDNKh ice rink.
