The athlete will miss several stages of the Biathlon World Cup
Leader of the Ukrainian team in biathlon Dmitry Pidruchny commented on his knee injury. According to the athlete, he felt a sharp pain on the second round of the men’s relay race in Kontiolahti.
“In general, I feel fine, except for the knee. It hurts very badly, I can hardly bend my leg.”
“The condition worsened after the relay. Five days before the performance in it, I no longer experienced any pain in my knee. Previous examinations that we did at home did not indicate in any way that there was a problem with the meniscus. It was clear that there was a problem with the ligament, and it was treated.”
“Already five days before the relay, the knee did not bother me, so Juraj Sanitra decided to put me in the race. The first lap I went without problems, and at the end of the second I started to feel pain in my knee. Already on the third he kept “on his teeth.” It was difficult to walk on the final lap because the pain was very strong.”
Recall that Ukraine, consisting of Artem Pryma, Dmitry Pidruchny, Bohdan Tsymbal and Anton Dudchenko, came to the finish line in 9th place in the relay in Kontiolahti. So far, this is the only start of the season for Pidruchny.
On December 8, the biathlete will undergo surgery in Germany. Recovery will take 4-5 weeks – thus, Dmitry can join the Ukrainian team at the World Championships in Oberhof, which will be held from February 8 to 19, 2023.
