Biathlete Kazakevich: “I lost the sprint at the Russian Cup in Tyumen with my head”

Olympic Games Silver Medalist National Team Biathlete Russia Irina Kazakevich told that she failed in the sprint during the Russian Cup stage in Tyumen because she believed early on that she could cope with the shot while standing.

Kazakevich took fifth place in the sprint race with two misfires in the standings. The biathlete was 1 minute 1.6 seconds behind the winner Elizaveta Kaplina, who shot flawlessly.

– In general, I had a good shot, although I would like, of course, faster. There is always something to add. Today I couldn’t stand the standing shot, although the weather made me feel good too. Apparently, I believed too early that I could cope with the shooting, that stopped me. Today I lost with my head.

You talked about well-being. Several biathletes fell ill. How do you feel?

– In general, I feel good, as in Uvat. I hope that all health problems will pass me.

– Olympic champion Dmitry Vasiliev says organizers are not sparing women by not canceling the race in Uvat due to severe frost. And running in this cold can affect women’s health. What do you think?

– Everyone decides for themselves whether to perform in such difficult conditions or not. I can say that I dressed very warmly then. I understood that in such weather, even if you just lie on a cold carpet, you can immediately catch a cold. So I was dressed very warmly. Each athlete must decide for himself how to dress in such weather and go to the start or not. No one will force you to leave. We are all adults and make our own decisions. You yourself can calmly refuse to go to the start in the cold, Kazakevich told .
