Yelistratov on winning the all-around: “There was not a single Czech Republic where I only came to ride”

Olympic short track champion Semyon Elistratov said his all-around success at the Russian Championship can be called a “victory by experience,” but you have to understand how much effort has gone into it.

Elistratov won the Russian championship with 89 points, which ended in Kolomna. During the tournament, he won over a distance of 1500 m, became third in the 1000 m, fourth in the “500” and won the superfinal. The second was Sergei Milovanov (65), the third – Konstantin Ivliev (60), who was in the lead on the first day of the competition.

– Semyon, after the first day, there was no fear for the final result? How did you feel?

– I feel good, I fully understood that this is an all-around – it lasts two days and ends with a distance of 3000 m. I understood that I could win and I prepared to cover the remaining distances well.

– So it’s a victory by experience?

— Yes, by experience, but it is impossible to win by experience alone. It is important that this experience is supported by something, and for this you have to work hard. I don’t remember what kind of Russian championship it is for me, but there definitely wasn’t one I would come to and just, you know, ride. We have worthy competition, there is someone to fight. I was interested in showing off my strength, I wanted to run well, with confidence, without having incomprehensible disqualifications. But for all of this to work, you have to be strong. And yes, experience is also important,” Yelistratov told .
