Olympic short track champion and leader of the Russian team Semyon Elistratov told he had missed international starts, while assessing the situation soberly so as not to burn himself out psychologically.
Russian short trackers miss the 2022/23 international season. In February, the IOC Executive Board recommended that international federations prevent Russians and Belarusians from participating in international competitions due to the situation in Ukraine. Many federations have followed these recommendations and suspended athletes from both countries.
– Personally, I expect my family and friends to be healthy in the New Year. This is the most important thing for every person. As for professional activity, I want as much work as possible, and that it is not easy – it allows me to flourish and move forward. I would like more competitions, so that there are glimpses of our early admission to international competitions. Honestly, I missed you a lot. I hope that the Russian Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Sports will be able to solve this problem in a positive way. And thank you for helping us today.
As an athlete, I do my best to be in shape, to be at the highest level. Already on January 3 we fly to training camp in Sochi, you need to be in good shape, not relax. Moreover, competitions are coming soon, Yelistratov told .
– Is there any hope that the Russians will be allowed to participate in the World Cup next season?
– I’m not counting on a miracle, such things can have a bad effect on psychology – you can just burn out. Yes, I look to the future, but I live for today. Of course, I really want permission, but there’s no expectation of a specific date. My motivation has not disappeared anywhere, the best world-class athletes take part in Russian competitions, and the rest of the guys are drawn to them. So our rivalry is at a good level.
As far as I know, there are glimpses that in the future we will be competing with the Asians. And you have to understand that they are the strongest representatives of short track in the world. So it will be interesting.
