Three-time world champion and member of the Russian luge team Roman Repilov told that the return of Russian sport to the international level is in the hands of politicians.
In February, the IOC Executive Board recommended that international federations prevent Russians and Belarusians from participating in international competitions due to the situation in Ukraine. Many federations followed these recommendations and suspended athletes from Russia and Belarus.
– When will Russia return to the international family?
No one knows, nothing depends on us here. Our job is to work, the rest is in the hands of the politicians. The return is unlikely to happen at some point and tomorrow we will have to go to the competition. We will probably be informed well in advance. I am physically, mentally and technically ready. Another thing is that little depends on this.
This year has been a success for me in terms of sleds – I test them on a track, take care of them entirely myself from and to. From the federation, at my personal request, the mechanic Vova Maknutin helps me a lot. Thank God everything is fine.
All that remains is to wait for our restoration of rights and the return of sport outside of politics.
– You have a collection in front of you. Ready after Christmas?
– Yes. This time the collection does not last three weeks, but only 10 days – from January 11. There will be no competitions in January, so the camp is short, so that the body does not wean itself from the sled, from the ice.
