The program of the Russian Cup in cross-country skiing is distinguished by a tight schedule and even exceeds international competitions in this indicator, said the winner of the World Championship Artem Maltsev .
On Friday, Maltsev took second place in the 15km individual freestyle at the sixth stage of the Russian Cup in Syktyvkar. The victory in the discipline was won by Alexander Bolshunov, the first three winners were closed by Ilya Poroshkin.
– Do you have enough motivation for the Russian Cup?
– Sure! Look at the density of the results. All the guys are fighting, all of the regions want to exceed the collections. Some people understand. I also have motivation, there is no problem with that,” Maltsev told reporters.
– You are always very warmly supported by the public. Because you’re the most smiling athlete on the team?
– After Denis Spitsov, probably, yes. Of course, I feel this support, it’s very nice that the public comes, gets sick, learns. Someone wants to take a picture, get an autograph – that’s great!
– Has the Russian Cup, as a tournament, completely replaced international competitions?
“You have to be competitive no matter what. If we were sitting with no starts at all, it would be possible to play sports. That’s why we have such a tight schedule for the Russian Cup, which is even tighter than in the World Cup. I competed there for the weekend, five days, then again (starts) the weekend. But it happened with us that we took the next step , two or three days (pause) and already running again.
