The first Olympic biathlon champion died at 92

The first-ever Olympic biathlon champion, Sweden’s Klas Lestander, has died at the age of 91, the International Biathlon Union (IBU) press service reports on Twitter.

Lestander died overnight from Thursday to Friday.

He remained lucid. We had a wonderful Christmas playing. Even at this age, he retained a competitive spirit. He was always a pioneer and innovator in what he did, – quotes the words of Dan Lestander, the son of a biathlete, SportBladet.

Lestander won gold in the individual race at the Squaw Valley Olympics in 1960. Also on his account is World Championship bronze.
