Biathlete Petr Pashchenko told about shooting problems during the first stage of the chase as part of the Russian Cup stage in Rybinsk.
On Friday, Pashchenko left the race 36 seconds late due to the fact that his transponder was given to another athlete. On the first coat, the biathlete made four failures. As a result, Pashchenko, who took second place in the sprint, finished 11th in the pursuit with seven misses. Alexander Povarnitsyn took first place, Nikita Porshnev finished second, Evgeny Yemerkhonov completed the top three.
– Peter, explain – what happened in the beginning? You entered the race 36 seconds late because your transponder was given to another athlete, then you failed four times in the first stage…
Yes, indeed, such an incident occurred. But when I started, I thought the time needed to be subtracted, so I wasn’t very worried about that. But there were problems on the first line of fire – there was a change of fire, all shots were knocked down. I’ve had this before in training. The most interesting thing is that with the coaches we still cannot find an explanation – why this is happening. This trend was also observed in training. Therefore, I wouldn’t move everything about the incident that happened before the start,” Pashchenko told .
– Five penalty loops – a huge burden. How did you prepare for the race?
– Worked in the comfort zone, did not give up running. I understood that it was necessary to work properly and wait for the mistakes of the adversaries. In principle, the situation was fixable, even after the first border it was possible to get out. But I failed today. My opponents did better.
– Will it add motivation in the next races?
– Of course, I always have a very big motivation to run a good sprint race and then move on to the pursuit. In my career, it’s already my third or fourth start in a row, while I’m very good in the sprint, but in the pursuit I constantly have a kind of overlap. Except last year’s European Championship, where everything went well for me. I think this trend needs to be stopped. For me, this is fundamental.
