Biathlete Alexander Povarnitsyn completely controlled the course of the pursuit race at the fifth stage of the Russian Cup in Rybinsk and gave no chance to the competitors, the silver medalist of the competition told Nikita Porchnev .
Povarnitsyn achieved a golden double in the Yaroslavl region, winning many sprint-pursuits. Porshnev finished second, 49 seconds behind the leader, taking third place Yevgeny Emerkhonov .
“Nikita, you had a great race. Did you feel there was an opportunity to fight for victory?
– It seems to me that Alexander Povarnitsyn completely controlled the whole race today and ran according to his own special layout. Before the final frontier, I saw how he abruptly added and fled Yevgeny Yemerkhonov. I realized he still had a lot of strength, and at the final frontier he did just fine, so he just didn’t give us a chance.
Are you satisfied with what you show at this stage?
– Of course, I’m happy. Not so long ago I had an illness, I was coughing a lot. Just before the New Year, I recovered and started training. Therefore, now it is not quite in ideal conditions, like many, by the way. But still, I’m happy with the way I’m moving. I thought it would be worse. In such a windy environment, the main thing here is to work on the turn. I understand.
– Many skip the Rybinsk stage, they prepare directly for the starts in Raubichi next week. Have you considered doing the same?
– I made it my task to play the whole season. I want to try to run as much as possible. The key is to perform consistently, not fail, and be in sight all the time. I think it will be a good result for me. Before that, I had problems all the time – either I was sick or something else, because of which I missed starts. Yes, this season I got a little sick at the Commonwealth Cup, but now I’m already in order and ready to take part in all the races, Porshnev told .
