Tsymbal: If we do not go to the front, then we need to represent Ukraine in the world in an accessible way

Ukrainian biathlete is constantly worried about the family that stayed in Chernihiv

Ukrainian biathlete Bogdan Tsymbal believes that it is important for athletes to compete in international competitions to maintain the prestige of Ukraine in the world.

“As to whether to speak during the war, I did not hesitate. I had to go and fight. If we do not go to the front to defend the country, then we need to represent Ukraine in the world in a different, accessible way for us. You have to mind your own business, what you do best.”

Yes, we are not as strong this year as we were last year. When they showed good results, especially in the relay. Yes, and the team leaders fell ill, Dmitry underwent surgery. But we still try very hard. For example, start [в индивидуальной гонке в Рупольдинге] was very good, all the guys fought until the last meter of the distance. Of course, in Pokljuka, to be honest, everything was bad. But it’s okay, everyone has bad starts, and we are not jobs – living people.

“We constantly think that there is at home. I left my wife and child in Chernigov and constantly worry about what and how it is there. Suddenly, from the side of Belarus, they start climbing again … and you are like that … what to do?

“I also thank the state for understanding us, letting us go abroad for competitions. We can train. Work. It may not be the same as before, but we can do it.”

Tsymbal took 34th place in the individual race in Ruhpolding. Bogdan later took part in the relay. The Ukrainian team took sixth place, showing their best result of the season.

Bogdan Tsymbal went to the European Biathlon Championships. The competition will take place from 23 to 29 January in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. The championship program includes: individual race, sprint, pursuit, single-mixed and classic mixed relay.
