Biathlete Karim Khalili told he was unhappy with his performance at the fifth Russian Cup stage in Rybinsk, despite finishing second in Monday’s super sprint.
The Rybinsk super sprint was also included in the Russian Championship standings. Won the competition gold medal Anton Babikov , Matvey Eliseev completed the first three.
– Karim, you signed autographs long after the race. How nice is that kind of attention?
“Of course it’s good that people support biathlon so much and know me by sight,” Khalili told .
– Today, you shot very well, you only missed once. How did you manage to come together in such a wind?
– There are no secrets. Everything is as usual – before the final frontier I tried to prepare for a clean shot. When I got to the shooting range, I heard that Anton Babikov and Matvey Eliseev had started getting dirty. I understood that it was necessary to take a quick and precise shot.
– You said you’re trying to increase the rate of fire. Did you manage to shoot today at speed, as expected?
– In general, yes. I am satisfied with the pace of shooting. It depended a lot on the wind conditions. Sometimes I had to wait a bit.
– Babikov is very strong in contact runs, plus he’s fresh because he’s only run two races here. But you understood and almost organized the finish line.
– I caught up with him all the circle, I understood that the mountain course was his. He has very light legs, so he jumps. Especially before – what he was doing on the slopes! I understood that Anton would shoot, I tried to catch up with him as quickly as possible. It turned out just in time for the climb. He pulled there, I held on with my last strength, and when we got to the bridge there was solid ice and my legs were gone. On the ice, my stabilizing muscles just let go. Therefore, I realized that upon arrival I simply could not recover my legs.
– Are you satisfied with the way you passed this stage in Rybinsk?
— It’s the best race for the stage. But I can’t say I’m happy.
