“In many places the level of accommodation and nutrition of athletes leaves much to be desired” – Khalili on the organization of Russian competitions

Bronze medalist at the Beijing Olympics Said Karimulla Khalili in a conversation with , he admitted that the level of organization of biathlon competitions in Russia is not always ideal.

Since November 2022, the Russian Biathlon Cup has been held. At the moment, the athletes have run five stages: in Khanty-Mansiysk, Uvat, Tyumen, Ufa and Rybinsk. The last stage starts on February 14 in Sochi.

– How do you find the level of organization of national competitions compared to international competitions where you started?

“In general, the level of organization is not bad,” Khalili told . – It is obvious that they do a lot for us, they try to raise the prestige of the competition. But, of course, in many places the level of accommodation and nutrition for athletes leaves much to be desired. Still, high-level biathletes come, but sometimes it is very difficult for them to find decent food, which is necessary for recovery.

– What is the problem? Poor quality products? Lack of variety in the menus?

— Yes, in general, the quality of the food is poor.

— Do you have any feedback from the organizers? Can you contact them with recommendations on what to add so that there are no such issues on your next visit? Didn’t they ask, for example, to be transferred to Rybinsk to provide normal food?

No, they didn’t. It also depends on the estimates of the regions. Each region has different amounts for food. Who can afford and how much is different everywhere. As a result, many athletes now carry a slow cooker with them, food, and eat alone at certain starts.

– Does it cause inconvenience?

– Of course, after training, I want to go to the dining room as soon as possible, eat and go to bed immediately. And here you must first
