Double world luge champion Semyon Pavlichenko spoke about the feelings of the first race in ten months and admitted that at one point he thought about ending his career.
The Russian national team’s training event in Sochi ended on Saturday. Pavlichenko returned to central training after an Achilles injury.
– I feel good, I came to the first training camp and started skating. To be honest, I was ready in December, but the rehabilitators I work with advised me to postpone it until January,” Pavlichenko told . “They gave me a bunch of great exercises and I feel a lot better. There was always, however, the lameness. Exercises should be done every two hours, but daily household chores do not always allow them to be done so often.
I haven’t fully recovered yet, but I skated well in training camp. Thank God we don’t have bobsleigh and skeleton, we accelerate differently. And I showed good acceleration, even though I haven’t ridden for ten months. There were thoughts to finish with the luge. I didn’t find myself at home and I really wanted to ride. I wanted this so much, I love my sport so much that at one point it seemed to burn out. But now I’ve taken a ride and realized that I can’t live without sleigh rides.
