President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) Viktor Maygurov should explain why some Russian athletes were deprived of the opportunity to participate in one of the races of the Russian championship among juniors, said the presenter and commentator of Dmitri Guberniev .
Departures took place from January 19 to 23 in Rybinsk, Yaroslavl region. Previously, Alexander Kasperovich and other coaches wrote an open letter to the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, in which they complained that Belarusian athletes were deprived of the participation of some Russians in the “big mass start”. According to the coaches, these competitions did not have the status of an open tournament, while foreigners can also participate in them.
– The situation is very strange. With all due respect to Belarusian athletes, we need to understand why some of our biathletes did not compete. Breaking the rules isn’t impossible – it’s also criminal. People spend money to come to competitions. Let’s imagine the situation: I’m a junior, I won the selection, I have to race a mega mass start, and they say to me: “I’m sorry, you’re not racing. Coaches are probably right to turn to the Ministry of Sports. It seems to me that the competent authorities should also be involved, because the question is also that of financial information. From my point of view, Viktor Maygurov, to put it mildly, was enthusiastic. We will wait for the reaction of the competent authorities, the Ministry of Sports, what else will the coaches say.
Let me emphasize that it is not about Belarusians. You just have to define the rules well: start in the sprint for example, there are other types of programs. But when the Russians are filmed before departure and they explain it with strange reasons, it’s a crazy situation. It is necessary for the Russian Biathlon Union and Viktor Maigurov to explain what is really going on. It is also a question of training athletes, attitude towards people and financial reports.
The Russian Biathlon Union has already opposed the Ministry of Sports and the state when it absolutely illegitimately endowed a vice-president of the RBU with the powers of head coach.
