The first “gold” for Ukraine
Ukrainian Alexandra Merkushina won a gold medal in European Youth Olympic Festival 2023which started in the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
Merkushina made only one mistake at the shooting range in the women’s sprint, but this did not prevent her from coping with her rivals at a distance. The second place was won by the representative of France Lola Byujod, the bronze went to the Czech Ilona Plekhatseva.
It should be noted that two more Ukrainians took part in the race. Tatyana Tarasyuk finished 18th, and Valeria Sheygas – 23rd. At the same time, both biathletes “purely” worked on shooting.
The next race in Italy will take place on Thursday 26 January. Short individual races will take place on this day. The European Youth Olympic Festival will be held from 21 to 28 January in the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
